>> So. A blog. Scary. Formal-ish-er writing in a space longer than a tweet. I do this all the time for school and work and just for fun but having a page just for a blog- it’s scary and weird. <<
New things are often daunting at first, but Dreamwidth is flexible and you can use it for whatever appeals to you. Some folks here do use it like Twitter with tiny, frequent posts. If you like that sort of thing, watch for them to follow. Other folks use this for sharing links or videos or images. Recurring posts are good for maintaining activity, and that entry has lots of ideas on what to blog about.
>>I’m unbelievably opposed to sharing basically anything real about myself outside of contextless snippets in a post or pictures.<<
That's okay. You can post about other things than yourself. You could do an entire blog on nothing more than "look at these cool things I found online." I link things often enough that some readers use my blog as a newsfeed.
>> Beyond this- the medium of the written word has its appeal but I’m a visual dame. I need to learn how to draw better and program better and etcetera before I want to put anything out there, in any format. <<
Visual is fine too. DW supports image posting, but the storage system is crap so most people just copy theirs from elsewhere.
If you want to level-grind the fundamentals of art, check out Drawabox.
>> So yuri, art, books, you get the gist. <<
There's some yuri on here but you may need to search Interests to find it. Art and books are both very popular. If you don't want to share your own stuff, you can read communities for fun things and link them, which is very useful because it helps more people find the communities.
